Managing Director Visits Kaduna Deputy Governor.



The Managing Director of Kaduna Electric, Engr. Yusuf Usman Yahaya, has pledged the company's readiness to provide qualitative power supply to Kaduna state.

He made the pledge when he paid a courtesy visit on the Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, at her office in Kaduna, Wednesday.

The Managing Director who was accompanied by some Management staff told the Deputy Governor that as key stakeholders, it was incumbent on him to visit and intimate them on recent happenings in the company and solicit the support of the state government in achieving the company's mandate of providing qualitative and reliable power supply to the people.

He said since his assumption of office a few months ago, he has been working to reposition the company for improved services to its customers. He said some of the challenges faced include poor customer attitude to bills payment and the recurring cases of energy theft and meter bypass, saying over 40% of the meters in Kaduna Electric's network have been bypassed.

Engr. Yusuf said also that challenges with grid supply also often affect the availability and quality of supply but that the company is working closely with all stakeholders in the value chain to surmount the challenge.

He assured the Deputy Governor that issues of power supply affecting Lere town in Saminaka Local Government will soon be addressed as efforts are in place resolve the issues between Kaduna and Jos Distribution Companies.

He also assured that the company will work collaboratively with the state government on the issue of power supply to some public schools that are currently out of supply.

In her remark, the Deputy Governor, who received the Kaduna Electric delegation on behalf of the State Governor, Malam Nasir Elrufai, harped on the need to improve power supply to Kaduna residents to boost socio-economic development in the state.

She congratulated the Managing Director on his new appointment and expressed hope that with him at the helm, the future will be brighter.

 

Kaduna Electric Mentors Marketing Students of Kaduna Polytechnic


In continuation of its mentorship programmes for students of tertiary institutions, Kaduna Electric yesterday held a one-day mentorship on post-graduation experiences, the challenges in the labour market and basic employment interview skills for final year students of Department of Marketing, Kaduna Polytechnic.

In his presentation titled: Marketing, the routes to growth and success, the Chief Marketing and Revenue Assurance Officer of the Company, Dr. Abubakar Jimeta charged the students to think beyond the theories and concepts taught in the classrooms and be innovative to enable them weather the stormy labour market.

He described Marketing as a very wide academic discipline and highly challenging profession which is daily evolving and imbibing new innovations.

He identified the four stages and strategies for product/services growth as market penetration, product development, market development and diversification.

He advocated marketing evangelism (personal marketing) as a veritable and effective tool for successful marketing.

He also advised the students to register with professional institutes/bodies as according to him “there are highly experienced professionals in such organizations that you, the up-coming professionals will tap from their wealth of experienced”.

The program which is being held at Unguwan Rimi campus of Kaduna Polytechnic affords participants to have more basic knowledge of Marketing, the students where mentored by the Chief Marketing and Revenue Assurance Officer of Kaduna Electric, Dr Abubakar Jimeta and, the Head OD&D of the company Mrs Adeola Akanni.

Earlier in her contribution, the Head OD&D of the company, Mrs Adeola Akanni shared her inspirational life journey as a young corps member to her present position.

She admonished the students to be hard working and encouraged them to acquire additional skills in order not rely only on a white-collar job.

In his welcome address, the Dean, College of Business and Management Studies, Dr. Musa Mshelia commended Kaduna Electric for what he described as “wonderful initiative aimed at preparing the students for the challenges after school”.

“Indeed, the mentorship program will go a long way in preparing the students on how to build their career as entrepreneurs or as an employee of any organization they find themselves after graduation’’, he said.

Highlight of the programme included the questions and answers session which proved to be highly enriching learning experience.
