We Should Spare no Effort In Dealing With Energy Theft and Vandalism-AbdulFatah Ibrahim

CCD: Can you briefly tell us about yourself?

AI: My name is Abdulfatah Ibrahim, I am the Team Lead Billing Sokoto Area Office. I am from Ilorin East LGA of Kwara state. I attended the great and famous Barewa College Zaria where I obtained my SSCE and proceeded to Ahmadu Bello University Zaria where I obtain my BSc in Computer Science. After I was done with my NYSC I join the service of Kaduna Electric in September 2015, I worked in the billing department as a staff after centralizing the billing unit I was assigned as team leading billing Sokoto Area Office. Am happily married.

 CCD: What are your primary responsibilities as Team Lead Billing?
AI: No doubt, Billing unit is the nucleus and integrating factor of Kaduna Electric, we produced the hardcopy bills that serve as a  transaction medium between our customers and the company i.e. Bill. As the Team Lead Billing I discharge the following responsibilities
I ensure bill accuracy and quality check
Report of billing and energy flow analysis
Update customer’s records such as change of name, address and meters e.t.c
Capture new customers into the billing system
And distribute bills to Service Center Managers for onward delivery to customers.

CCD: What will you considered as the challenges in this job?
AI: Here we come what I considered to be most challenging of my job is Quick response in resolving customers’ issues on their Bills.

CCD: How do you manage to address those challenges?
AI: I ensured that all data received from the Managers through the Marketing and Revenue Assurance Officer are analyzed and well scrutinized and readily acceptable for upload (Operation).
I also ensure effective communication to Head office Billing Team through mail, WhatsApp group and phone calls. The Managers are also not left out, I maintain effective communication to Service Center Managers through the Marketing and Revenue Assurance Officer to make corrections with regards to any customers record not properly sent for corrections.
All these efforts put in place have gone a very long way in resolving most if not all of our customers complains.

CCD: How do you see operations of Kaduna Electric?

AI: We have a lot of improvements especially with the new strategy put in place by the Management, I enjoined the Management to maintain continuity and employed more strategies to improve our revenue generation.

CCD: How do your role add value to Kaduna Electric?

AI: I think this platform will not be enough to mentioned how I have positively added and still adding Values to this company but to mention few among
I always ensure that bills are delivered to service center managers on time for onward delivery to our respective customers and on receiving these bills by the customers they will proceed to make payment.
Also, I have ensured DT Alignment, feeder update, ppm reactivation (i.e burnt meters) , bill reactivations, appropriate classification of customers and resolved customers complains of overbilling by taking their load assessment all these effort put in place have gone a very long way in generating revenue for the company.
Solving our customers issues on their bills will go a long way in adding to our Revenue Generation no doubt about this.

CCD: What are your appeal to the management?

AI: I will like the management to take issue of energy theft, bye- pass and miscreants who vandalize our power line cables, transformers etc very serious. Who so ever is caught should be seriously dealt with his/her picture should be all around both on TV and all other means of social media. With this the issue of energy theft of cable vandalization will be minimize to the barest level.
Lastly, staff welfare is a motivating factor. Management are trying and can still do more.

Kaduna Electric Takes the Lead in Distribution Franchising as NERC Bemoans Energy Theft.

The Managing Director/CEO of Kaduna Electric, Engr. Garba Haruna disclosed that Kaduna Electric has blazed the trail in sub-franchising as the Company has gone far in sensitising and mobilising the business community and all relevant stakeholders in its franchise on the benefits of the proposed franchising partnership to both the electricity consumers and the electricity industry.

Engr. Garba Haruna made the assertion in Kaduna earlier this week during stakeholders’ consultation organised by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC.     

Engr. Garba Haruna also allayed fears of any tariff increase or hidden charges by any franchisee. 

According to him, "any franchisee operating in Kaduna Electric's franchise area shall be made to fully comply with the service level agreement and any breach of contract by the franchisees shall not be tolerated".

The electricity boss assured the customers of the company of the unwavering commitment of the Management of Kaduna Electric to service excellence and shall always support any initiative by NERC aimed at improving service delivery and customers satisfaction.

Earlier, the Vice Chairman of Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, Engr. Sunusi Garbs attributed the high estimated billing being complained of across the country to the upsurge in cases of energy theft and unauthorised pilfering of electricity. 


Engr. Sunusi said that "energy theft is the major contributing factor to the prohibitive estimated billing currently being experienced across the country" and called on all stakeholders to join hands with the Commission to address the situation. 

He disclosed that the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission is working on three draft regulations; the Distribution Franchising, Capping of Estimated Billing and Competitive Transition Charge Regulations, aimed at injecting more efficiency and competition into the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry.

"The Commission is going round the Country to hold public hearing with the view to getting more valuable inputs from all stakeholders so that at the end, we shall have all inclusive and robust regulations which shall go a long way in addressing some of the challenges bedeviling the nation's electricity market", he stated.

Zamfara State Pledges Support To Kaduna Electric.

The Deputy Governor of Zamfara State, Barrister Mahdi Ali Gusau has promised to give maximum cooperation to Kaduna Electric to guarantee stable power supply and sustainable development in the State. 

Barrister Mahdi stated this on Wednesday when he received the Management of the Gusau Area Office of Kaduna Electric in his office.

He also assured the Management of the Company of his readiness to make himself available whenever there is need for that. "I will give you my adequate support and cooperation whenever there is need for that, so that together we can ensure uninterrupted power supply in the state", he stated 

In his response, the Area Manager, Engineer Sabo Abdul congratulated the Deputy Governor for being the number two citizen of the State and solicited for his support on ways to tackle some issues hindering the performance of the Electricity Distribution Company in the state.
"We are soliciting the cooperation of the State Government and all critical stakeholders in the State to guarantee steady and qualitative power supply; when we are given the necessary cooperation, we promise to give adequate supply, thereby boosting economic activities in the State and providing employment opportunities to the youth", the Area Manager contented. 

The Area Manager also assured the Deputy Governor of the company's support to all the developmental initiatives of the administration.


Kaduna Electric Staff Donate Blood to Hospital.

In an exceptional display of the positive side of humanity, staff of Kaduna Electric donated blood to Yusuf Dantsoho Memorial Hospital, Tudun Wada, Kaduna. 









The exercise which took place yesterday, 7th July, 2019 at the Corporate Headquarters of the Company saw the staff voluntarily donating blood for the benefits of less privilege patients at the hospital.

A statement signed by Head, Corporate Communication of the Company, Abdulazeez Abdullahi described the gesture as a response to the company's long established tradition of providing support and assistance to communities within the company's franchise area.

"It is in line with the Corporate Social Responsibility policy of the company to give back to the society and support the developmental aspiration of our host communities and other less previledge members of the society", he said. 

The leader of the team from Dantosho Hospital, Mr. Ibrahim commended the staff of Kaduna Electric for the act of charity and described the gesture as timely and you which will go a long way in saving  lives of the people, especially the down-trodden members of the society and appealed to other cooperate organization to emulate the gesture of the staff of the electricity distribution company.


Head of Unit, OD&D Charges New Staff on Self Development

The Head of the Unit, Organizational Design and Development, Mrs. Adeola has charged the newly employed staff currently undergoing induction training to take all trainings programs organized for them serious and consider such as an opportunity to empower themselves and be mentors to others. 

She made the appeal while declaring open the 4-day induction program organized by the HR department for the new employees at the Head Office, Kaduna.She stressed the importance of training and capacity building to the overall success of the Company. In her words "The Company is committed to meeting the demands of customers as well as staff and the Unit is not resting on it oars to ensure its success". 

She applauded the enthusiasm exhibited by the staff so far and urged them to keep it up for improved performance. "we have been doing it, but it is not enough, sincerely speaking there is room for improvement", she contended. 

She concluded by calling on all staff to maintain a harmonious working relationship with their colleagues which according to her is the only way any business organization can attain any form of success.
