We are Adopting Tripartite Approach to Checkmating
Vandalism_ Abdul-Hakeem Bello
CCD: Tell us more about
the man Abdul-Hakeem Bello Umar?
ABU: My name is Abdul-Hakeem Bello Umar, I was born on the 11th of June, 1983 in
Argungu town, Kebbi State. I attended Demonstration Model Primary School
Argungu, I further attended Federal Government College Birnin Yauri, Kebbi
State. After which, I proceeded to Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, where I
acquired Bsc degree in Economics.
Before I joined this
Company, I worked with Maritime Academy of Nigeria Oron, Akwa Ibom state, as
Admin Officer. I joined Kaduna Electric in the year 2015 as Sales
Representative, and I was later transferred to Admin and Security Department as
Admin and Security Officer, Kebbi Area Office.
ABU: As Admin and Security Officer, my responsibilities are wide
and very critical to our operations. These includes, Security Services i.e.
management of internal and external security, Administration, Facility and
Environmental services, Logistics and Protocol Services.
All these
responsibilities requires a lot of commitment and devotion, because it is the
heart of the Company and a very sensitive area of operations. As such, we are
doing our best to ensure that the company’s mission and vision is achieved.
CCD: Considering the
fact that you are the Admin and Security Office, there must be challenges
related to your job role, tell us about that.
ABU: The major challenge affecting Admin and Security office is
the issue of vandalism.
The Communities in
which most of our facilities are installed do not see the fight against
vandalism as a collective responsibility of both the Community and the Company
as well. Another salient issue bedeviling this department is the issue of rent,
mostly we are in arrears of premises occupied by some service centers.
CCD: How do you manage
to address those challenges?
ABU: We were able as the result of synergy between all the
relevant departments in the Area Office, we have been able to combat vandalism
to the barest minimum. We also created synergy with all relevant security
operatives in the state and also engaged the communities on the need to report
suspicious movements around the company’s critical infrastructures.
CCD: How is your
department collaborating with other department like Legal and Commercial
department?
ABU: Firstly in Kebbi Area Office, we work as a team for the
purpose of uplifting the set goal of the Company. We work with the legal
department to ensure that after
Completion of
investigation in any criminal case; be it vandalism or other crime against the
Company, the suspects are prosecuted and convicted if found guilty, the legal
services had always been on ground whenever their advice and services are
required.
As for the Commercial
department, we ensure that all our service centers are been manned by our BDM
security operatives in order to ensure the safety of our facilities and staff,
and as such boost the revenue collection of the company. Equally, we also
ensure that those who bypass or compromise the company’s prepaid meters are
arrested, arraigned and prosecuted before a competent court of law, hence this
will block revenue leakages in the system.
CCD: Any appeal or
suggestion to staff and management?
ABU: My appeal to my colleagues is we should always do our work
passionately and imbibe the spirit of team work and integrity in our
assignments. We should also be vigilant and report any case of vandalism
against the company’s critical infrastructure.
