Kaduna Electric Engages Zazzau Emirate District Heads.

 

In continuation of the Company’s stakeholder’s engagement and consumer education programmed aimed at building customers' confidence in the brand and creating mutual beneficial understanding with the electricity consuming public, Kaduna Electric community engagement train, on Thursday, 16th February, 2023 visited the ancient city of Zaria.

The Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Ocholi Ausa, who stood in for the Managing Director/CEO, Engr. Yusuf Usman Yahaya led the delegation that held constructive discussions and customers education programmed with two Senior title holders and District Heads at the office of the Sarkin Kudun Zazzau and District Head of Birni da Kewaye.

Mr. Ocholi Ausa revealed that the mission of the Team is to strengthen the partnership between the Company and Zazzau Emirate Council in particular and the customers of the Company in the Emirate in general.

He further disclosed that the electricity sector is now market driven and each player is obliged to live-up to its monthly financial obligations to the market.

According to him, the Company’s monthly Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading, NBET and Market Operator, MO invoices for energy supplied in its franchise revolves around N7b monthly while the monthly collections has been N3b and sometimes, even less.

He lamented the poor commercial performances of some location especially within Zaria City, stressing that “a situation where revenue collected in some Distribution Sub-stations is less than 15% of the billing is unacceptable, counterproductive and will surely hinder sustainable power supply”.

The COO called for behavioral change and appealed to the Traditional rulers to use their revered positions in educating their subjects on the importance of prompt settlement of bills.

On safety, the Chief Operating Officer expressed regret over the recent unfortunate electric accident in Gwargwaje and warned that “the Company will no longer tolerate breach of established safety standard and shall always ensure full Compliance with all safety codes and industry’s best practices”.

He called on the District Heads to educate and where necessary, warn their wards against erecting structures under power lines and or engaging in any unsafe practices.

In their separate response, the Sarkin Kudun Zazzau and the District Head of Birni da Kewaye, Barrister Sambo Shehu Idris and the Dan Barhin Zazzau and District Head of Sabon Gari, Alhaji Ahmad Bashar Aminu commended the Management of Kaduna Electric for sustaining the community engagement programmed and suggested that the forum should be institutionalized.

High point of the engagement is the adoption of zero tolerance to construction of houses, shops or temporary shades under power lines with the District Heads promising to sensitize their subjects on the danger of such acts.

 

Sokoto Zone Holds Biz Development Strategy Retreat for Management Team.

Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company has conducted a two-day retreat for Sokoto Zonal Management team comprising Regional Managers, Area Managers, Commercial Managers, Technical Managers and Service Centre Managers.

Addressing the participants via zoom, the Managing Director, Kaduna Electric, Engineer Yusuf Usman Yahaya acknowledged the efforts of the leadership in the zone and challenged them to put more efforts in revenue drive.

Engineer Yahaya observed that Kaduna Electric is not where it should be but through the collective effort of all staff, Kaduna Electric would be rescued from the "intensive Care Unit where it is presently”.

While acknowledging the good work and intelligence gathering of the team sent to Sokoto that uncovered cases of 3000 burnt meters, the Managing Director encouraged staff concerned to step up on revenue collection efficiency, response to customers enquiries and complaints.

"In Kaduna Electric, all and sundry must ensure the right thing is done at the right time. I am glad to work with good hands, intelligent and competent people in the Company”, he said.

"For those that are hardworking, Kaduna Electric will provide you enable working environment that will make you grow. On my part, I will continue to support those that are ready to work and grow."

Engineer Yahaya also assured the participants that he will not allow customers to intimidate staff of the Company as long, they are doing their job right.

Head Operations, Sokoto Zone, Mr. Sunday Yahaya handled review of January performance l, ll and lll, while Engineer Mustapha Gago Area Manager, Kebbi North handles Technical for non-technical training.

Other items treated at the retreat included Leadership training, Development of a comprehensive 2023 business plan for the region and formation of teams and breakout session.

Returning from the breakout, all the Area managers of the region, presented their strategic work plans and collection target commitment for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarter of the year to the house.

Also addressing the participants via zoom, the Chief Operating Officer, Kaduna Electric, Mr. Ocholi Isaac Ausa acknowledged the efforts of the organizers and called for more productivity as, a lot is expected from Sokoto Zone.

Mr. Ocholi, who harped on the need for the progress and survival of the Company, advised the staff to disregard the rumors that Kaduna Electric has been sold describing such as 'fake news.'

He reiterated the need for all Area Offices and Service Centers to always have a work plan which is key to success and directed that more efforts should directed at ensuring ATC&C loses reduction.

“We Count on Kaduna Electric to Transform DICON into Military Industrial Complex” …. Gen. Tafida

The Director General, Defense Industry Corporation of Nigeria, DICON, Major General Hassan Tafida has appealed to the Management of Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company to support the Corporation as it transforms into a modern military industrial complex, while pledging to live up to their obligations to the Company.

General Tafida made the appeal today when he paid a courtesy visit to the Managing Director/CEO of Kaduna Electric at the Company’s Corporate Headquarters in Kaduna.

He pledged to continue to pursue the payment of the outstanding electricity bills owe by the defense Industry Corporation with the relevant departments in the Ministry of Defense.

“We are aware of the huge outstanding debt owe by the Corporation; the Defense Ministry is working on it, hopefully, it shall be cleared in due course. I want to assure you that we shall constantly remind and impress on the relevant departments to ensure that the payment is made”, he said.

 General Tafida took advantage of the visit to brief his host on the transformation going on in the Defense Industry Corporation of Nigeria through various Public-Private sector initiatives.

In his response, the Managing Director/CEO of Kaduna Electric, Engr. Yusuf Usman Yahaya affirmed the commitment of the Electricity Company to support DICON given its strategic role in the nation’s security and defense architecture.

He reminded the military chief of the current reality of the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry, the challenges facing Kaduna Electric in particular and nation’s power sector in general as well as the needs for MDAs to always leave up to their obligations “as the reality of the present private sector driven electricity industry cannot accommodate defaults in payment of bills”.

“As DICON is being transformed; as more expansion is going on in DICON and more production Is taking place, Kaduna Electric shall stand with DICON as long as it reciprocates the gesture. We shall always support our customers, especially manufacturing outfits like DICON whose strategic importance to the economy cannot be over-emphasized”, Engr. Yusuf said.

He assured the DICON DG that all concerns raised shall be looked into and reiterated the unflinching commitment of Kaduna Electric to service improvement.

 

Kaduna Electric: Impostor bags Six Months Imprisonment 

A Chief Magistrate Court in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State has sentence one Bashar Muhammad Bunza to six months imprisonment for criminal breach of trust, obtaining money under false pretense and impersonation.

The convict was arrested by the operatives of Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) for parading himself to Customers of Kaduna Electric as a staff of the Company and collecting bills payment for his personal use.

The First Information Report stated that Bashar was apprehended by some customers in go-slow area, Birnin-Kebbi where he collected the sum of ₦ 10,000 naira from one customer in the area called Usman Umar and could neither provide evidence of payment no account for the money.

The operatives of the NSCDC who arrested him later referred the matter to NSCDC Division, Makerar Gandu, Birnin Kebbi for further investigation and later charged him before the Chief Magistrate Court One, Birnin-Kebbi for breach of trust, obtaining money under false pretense and impersonation contrary to section 132 of the Penal Code, law of Kebbi State 1999.

He pleaded guilty of the crimes and was sentence to six months imprisonment each with the option of ₦100,000 fine and also to pay the sum of ₦ 10,000 as compensation to the victim. The sentences are to run concurrently.

 

NSCDC Kebbi State Command Promise to Continue to Support Kaduna Electric

 

The Management of Kebbi Region met with the Officials of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Kebbi State Command.

The engagement was held at the Headquarters of the State Command of the NSCDC with the State Commandant and his team in attendance.

In his opening remark, the Technical Manager, Kebbi Central Area Office, Engr. Abubakar Nuhu Sokoto who represented the Regional Manager on the visit.

Stated that the essence of the engagement is to synergize and come up with a sustainable plan by ensuring the both parties have a good workin
g relationship.


He further emphasized on the vandalism of power installations in some parts of the state, and solicits for their continued support in safeguarding the facilities of the Company.

Kaduna Electric has been a very good partner with the State Command in terms of support and other related matters.

While responding, the OC anti-vandal thanked the team of Kaduna Electric for coming down to their office as there is already existing partnership between the two organizations.

We are going to continue to work as partners in progress, and form an anti-vandal committee that will comprise the both parties to see how we can be able to minimize the act of vandalism on the network of Kaduna Electric across the State, he said.
