We Advice Customers to Verify the Bills Before Renting Any Property- Bashir Adamu
CCD- Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
BA- My name is Bashir Adamu, I am from Bauchi State. I attended my primary school in RCM primary school in Plateau state, then I had my secondary education in International School, ATBU Bauchi, then from there, I proceeded to University of Maiduguri where I graduated in Library Science, I also did my M Sc in information technology. I joined the service of Kaduna Electric in November 2017.
CCD- What is your primary responsibilities?
BA- When I came, I started with quality assurance dept but later on, I was reassigned to assessment dept and this where I am currently working as a data analyst. We have three segments in the Assessment Dept, we have enforcement, assessment and MIS units. The enforcement team goes out everyday to the field, when they are done, they will bring the report to us at the assessment unit; we will asses what they bring to us from field, we will calculate the loss of revenue and penalty; when we are done, then we will transfer everything to MIS which is the third unit of the dept.
CCD- Do you have any challenges you encounter?
BA- Yes, we have many challenges in the enforcement team, when they go to the field, they mostly have the issues of bypass, when they bring the IR to us, sometime you find out the customer will come and start complaining that he or she was not the one who do the bypass; that he/she just got into the house or he or she is new in the house; they come up with so many excuses. So when we heard them, we normally advise them that whenever you are about renting a house, the first thing you are suppose to do is come to Kaduna electric, ask the person who supervise the meter let them go and check it for you, if you don’t have any problem then a customer should go ahead and rent the house. And whatever happen to the meter, don’t call ‘Nepa two’ to check it for you, just go to any of our office nearby and complain to them. And also, the challenges we are facing again is, sometimes, the customer that did the bypass they don’t normally come to pay, we also have court cases In our dept, there are some people since 2017 they were caught with bypass but they did not pa. So, what we did we take the issue to Management and the Management engaged the services of external lawyers to recover the unpaid penalty, some have paid but up to now some have not paid, that is the major challenge we are facing.
CCD- In a situation were a customer come with his/her complaint that they rent a house and the meter was bypassed, how do you normally handle such situations?
BA- Well, some customers will come in a polite way ask us what to do if something happened to them like this, we normally advise them but some customers will come and talk to us arrogantly, I know that we are here to serve them but there is something which courtesy demand of, but nevertheless, we normally handle them the same we explain everything to them and finally they leave happily.
CCD- Is there any amount of money they paid?
BA– Of cause yes. We have two types of bypass, there is internal bypass and external bypass, the external bypass is much obvious, it is a direct bypass of the meter and connect your self directly, such customer will be using the energy without coming to buy token, so for that we charge them for lose of revenue and penalty and reconnection for their supply to be reconnected back and the internal bypass is the one a customer will bypass internally there is additional money for the meter because you temper the meter internally and the meter will no longer be useful again.
CCD- Do you have any appeal or suggestion to staff and management?
BA- Yes, the management should always do what is needed for their staff, this motivation is good because if you are taking care of your staff, nobody can do anything stupid, so please let them look at it very well. My appeal to staff is that we the should know that the company is having some issue so lets try our best to double up what we are doing, so please lets join hands together and make sure things are put in place and try to the best of our ability to make the company proud.
