MEET THE STAFF SERIES

We Maintain all Communication Infrastructure of the Company-  Muhammad Umar Alhaji

CCD: Can you briefly tell us about yourself?

MUA: My name is Muhammad Umar Alh. I had my Primary education at NEPA Staff School, Shiroro dam and later went to Federal Government College, Minna. I am a graduate of the Federal University of Technology Minna, Niger State. I did my compulsory National Youth Service at the Nigerian Shipper's Council, Lagos (NSC) where I served in the Maritime Resources Library. I learned a lot about the maritime sector and was able to digitalize most of the books in their library.

CCD:  When did you join the service of the Company?

MUA: I joined Kaduna Electric on 1st Sept 2019 as a team member in the Communication Unit under the ICT department.

CCD: What are your primary responsibility as an ICT officer?

MUA: My primary assignment is to maintain the Company’s VHF communication radios and communication masts as well as supervision of intercoms telephone and CCTV.

CCD: Can you share with us some of the support ICT. is rendering to other Departments?

MUA: The Communication Unit in particular renders support to the Engineering as well as Admin and Security Departments the most because they are the ones that make use of the CCTV and the VHF radios. However, the ICT department supports almost all the Departments and Units of the Company. All the processes automation in the Company were done by the Department.

What is the difficult part of being an ICT Officer?

MUA:The difficult time I had in Kaduna Electric was when I went to the Guasu Area Office where one of our masts fell down; while we were dismantling it, we heard sporadic gunshots from nowhere and I was destabilized. I tried to remain at the substation but the shock of the gun shoot was still in me and I could not make it. I had to leave the Area Office. That was the most traumatizing experienced I have ever had.

CCD: Do you prefer working alone or in a team?

MUA: I prefer working in a team not working alone because whenever you work in a team, you get to learn new things which you are not familiar with and get the opportunity to ask questions.

CCD:  What do you do at your leisure time?

MUA: At my leisure time, I like visiting friends and meeting new people and I love playing badminton and making friends.

CCD: Do you have any appeal or suggestions to Staff or Management?

MUA: My call to the members and staff of Kaduna Electric is to wake up and be up and doing with the current development in the industry.Let us all work hard to ensure Kaduna Electric excel.
