Higher Management Should Ensure Prompt Payment of Service Center Rents - Isma’il Tukur Jega

CCD: Tell us more about the man Isma’il Tukur?
ITJ: My name is Isma’il Tukur Jega, I was born on the 1st of December 1988 in Jega town, Kebbi State. I attended Unity Primary School, Jega, I further attended Federal Technical College, Zuru for my Secondary Education, after which, I proceeded to Kebbi State University of Science and Technology, Aliero, where I acquired Bsc degree in Mathematics. I recently did my Msc in Engineering Management at Coventry University, United Kingdom.

I joined Kaduna Electric in 2015 as Sales Representative, I took a study leave in 2017 for my second Degree. On completion o the study, I returned to Head Office as Head of Group, Operation and Maintenance  and I was later redeployed to Admin and Security Department as Admin and Security Officer, Kebbi Area Office.
CCD: What are your primary responsibilities as Admin and Security Officer?
ITJ: As Admin and Security Officer, my responsibilities are very critical and has a wider area of operations. These includes Security Services i.e management of internal and external security, Administration, Facility and Environmental services, Logistics and Protocol Services.
All these responsibilities requires a lot of  commitments and devotion, because it is the heart of the Company and a very sensitive area of operations as such we are doing our best to ensure that the Company’s mission and vision is achieved in due time.

CCD: Considering the fact that you are the Admin and Security Officer, there must be challenges related to your job role, tell us about that.
ITJ: The major challenge affecting Admin and Security office is the issue of vandalism. The Communities in which most of our facilities are installed do not see the fight against vandalism as a collective responsibility of both the Community and the Company as well. Another salient issue bedeviling this department is the issue of rent, mostly we are in arrears for premises occupied by some service centers. The property owners are always threatening to dislodge us.

CCD: How do you manage to address those challenges?
ITJ: We have been able to combat vandalism to the barest minimum. We also have the support of all relevant security operatives in the state and also engaged the communities on the need to report suspicious movements around the Company’s critical infrastructures.

CCD: How is your department synergizing with other department like Legal and Commercial department?
ITJ:  Firstly, in the Area Office, we work as a team for the purpose of achieving the set goal of the Company. We work with the legal department to ensure that after completion of investigation in a criminal case, be it vandalism or other crime against the Company, the suspects are prosecuted, the legal services had always been on ground whenever their advice and services are required.
As for the Commercial department, we ensure that all our service centers are being manned by our BDM security operatives in order to ensure the safety of our facilities and staff, and as such boost the revenue collection of the Company. We equally ensure that perpetrators of energy theft and meter tampering are arrested and prosecuted in court of law, hence this will block the leakages in the system.

CCD: Any appeal or suggestion to staff and management?
ITJ:  My appeal to my colleagues is we should always do our work passionately and imbibe the spirit of team work and integrity in our assignments. We should also be vigilant and report any case of vandalism of the company’s critical infrastructure.
