WHY YOUR NEW SMART METER MAY BE 'RUNNING FAST'

Since the commencement of the ongoing new smart meter installations in Kaduna, Sokoto and Kebbi states, we have received complaints from customers that the smart meters are 'running fast'. We wish to reassure our customers that the reading accuracy of the meters have been certified by the Nigerian Electricity Management Agency (NEMSA), the government agency responsible for upholding standards in the  that industry.
Some of the reasons why customers may notice that their meters are 'running fast' are;

  1. The wiring in some customers homes may be faulty resulting in energy leakage. Customers are therefore advised to ensure their wiring is done by certified LECAN contractors in order to avoid such leakages.
  2. Customer should also monitor the usage of high energy consuming electrical items at home to regulate electricity usage. Such Items include; water heaters, bore holes, pressing iron, boilers and air conditioners. Adopting an energy management approach in the home will greatly reduce cost.

We wish to urge our customers to embrace the new smart meters as they offer the following advantages:


1. The new smart meters ensure more accurate readings hence only reads what the customer consumes.
2. The customer can easily monitor his energy consumption to ensure better energy management.
4. Customers can interface with the new smart meters from the comfort of their rooms by recharging or checking their balance.
5. The new smart meters ensure customers are no longer billed by estimation.
6. The new smart meters ensure customers are placed on their correct tariff class
