 ENSURING STAFF EXIBIT THE RIGTH ATITUDE TO WORK IS MY PRIORITY- RAHMATU ABUBAKAR

 

CCD: Can we have your brief profile?

RA: Am Rahmatu Abubakar the Service Center Manager 11kv luggard hall.

CCD: What is it to be supervising Service Center, can you share with us?

RA: It is to manage all that pertains to the SC, including staffers be it technical, revenue assurance, account, security staff. I am to also manage materials allotted the SC for maintenance etc. I am to ensure that revenue target is met. As a matter of fact, I am the CEO of the Service Center, apart from paying salaries.


CCD: What do you consider as the most challenging part of supervising people and managing customer's?

RA: Attitude!  Ensuring that staff exhibit the right attitude to work first by being punctual and being dedicated to their work schedule is quite challenging but also surmountable. 

Also the attitude of customers to respond to payment without being disconnected, and/or illegal tempering with meters is quite challenging too, resulting in energy loss and affects the reduction of ATC&C. My most challenging part is operational vehicle. We mostly have to trek to get to our point of work for the day.

CCD: What is your total customer's population and classification in Isa Kaita?

RA:  The total population is - 2424

C1- 1046

D1- 6

CCD: How do you ensure fairness among your workers?

RA: By ensuring I treat everyone equally.

CCD: What do you consider as your major achievement since you assume duty in the service center?

RA: I was able to improve the collection of the Service Center from 98% to 115% Improvement of CE from 98% to 115%.

CCD: Do you have any appeal or suggestion to Staff or Management?

RA: My appeal to staff is for us to redouble our efforts and work in strict

compliance with the core value of Kaduna Electric so as to achieve our overall target.

New MD Promises Inclusive leadership

The new Managing Director/CEO of Kaduna Electric, Engr. Yusuf Usman Yahaya has assumed duty with a promise of promoting inclusive leadership, consultation and team work.

Engr. Yusuf Usman Yahaya made the assertion when he officially met with the outgoing Managing Director Engr. Garba Haruna, Management and staff of the Company on 11th May 2022 during his inaugural meeting as well as farewell ceremony for the outgoing Managing Director/CEO, Engr. Garba Haruna. 

Engr. Garba Haruna welcomed the new MD/CEO, Engr. Yusuf Usman Yahaya and thanked the Management and the entire staff for the cooperation and understanding extended to him and urged them to do the same to the new MD/CEO.

Engr. Garba Haruna advised the staff to always put the interest of the Company above any other consideration and listen to the wise counseling of the Company's new Chief Executive.

"Once you can listen to him you will learn a lots, he is going to give you a new target base on the target he has given and I believe that he has his new strategies on how to move on the company even higher, hoping that he is going to be better than me. I really appreciate you all I enjoy working here" he said.

Meanwhile, the new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Engr. Yusuf Usman Yahaya expressed his readiness to put to use his valuable knowledge and diverse experiences garnered in both public and private sector.

He thanked the outgoing Managing Director, Management and staff for the warm reception given to him.

According to him, "the entire sector has a challenge but all of us working together and taking the challenge we will be there, I believe in the value of human capital that this Company have".


Nursing Mothers Get Crèche

Considering the challenges working mothers face trying to meet up with targets at work place, Kaduna Electric chose to make life more comfortable and easier for nursing mothers who are staff of the company.

To this end, the company launched a crèche within the premises of the headquarters in Kaduna recently, where female staff can drop off their babies and still spend quality time with them while during breaks at their work place.

The commissioning was carried out by the outgoing MD/CEO Engr. Garba Haruna with the support from the new MD/CEO Engr. Yusuf Usman Yahaya and Management staff of the company.

According the Company Secretary Dr. Maryam Shehu, the crèche is one of the outcomes of the Board commitment to the welfare of staff and especially working mother. She recalled that the Board approved a Gender Diversity and Inclusiveness Policy which has translated into getting more women in leadership roles.

“This is not just a crèche but most importantly, a child support system for working parents of which parents will be privileged to see the development of their babies”.

“I believe with this facility, staff can pursue a career and grow a wholesome family and all of that mom guilt is completely gone, it is also a means of empowering women as mothers well be more productive at work, knowing that their babies are well taken care of " she noted.

The Head OD&D Mrs Adeola Akanni explained that the idea for the crèche came from the need for staff to have a staff crèche in order to break all barriers of work in the organization and to provide comfort, satisfaction and allow female staff to be more productive at work, knowing that their children are safe.
