We disconnected Zamfara Govt House over N400m debt - Kaduna Electric

Kaduna Electric disconnected the Zamfara State Government House and other government offices in Gusau due to the over N400 million debt the state government is owing the company.

The company's Business Development and Relationship Officer in Gusau Area Office, Mr. Aminu Yakubu, said the action followed the failure of the state government to settle its bills.

Yakubu said the state government, which had a monthly electricity bill of between N15 million and N20 million, was now owing the company about N400 million.

"Since there was no indication that the state government would pay, my head office directed that we cut the supply until the debt is settled, " the officer said.

Yakubu, however, said that the state House of Assembly had invited him to explain the reason the company cut power supply to the state government.

"I explained the debt profile and the legislators promised to talk to the executive so that the money being owed would be settled," he said.

Yakubu said his office was now waiting to hear from the lawmakers and if nothing positive was done, he would wait for further directive from his headquarters.

Kaduna Electric partners ANED, French agency on staff training

 The French Development Agency under the UIMM Project in collaboration with the Association of Nigerian Electricity Distribution Companies (ANED) has indicated readiness to assist Kaduna Electric in knowledge and skills acquisition for its staff. 

At a meeting with the management of Kaduna Electric at the Company's Headquarters in Kaduna, the Project Manager of the UIMM Project, Agathe Gondinet said that this is in line with the Agency's mandate to help Electricity distribution companies across Nigeria to develop skilled manpower.

According to her "To achieve this, we have embarked on tour of all the eleven DISCOs, starting with Kaduna Electric, in order to know their training needs and partner with them to design and implement training plans that will be useful in addressing their human development needs".

Explaining further, she said that the aim of the project "is to support the Human Resources Managers in all the Distribution Companies (DISCOs) in Nigeria so that they will be strengthened and empowered through Train-the-trainer sessions, to design training programs and curricula for their respective companies". 

Ms Gondinet stated that the two-year project, which has already started, is also going to be developing strategic partnership with both government and private owned training institutes like the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN) by providing them with both the infrastructure and information on the training needs of the entire sector so that they can adapt their curriculum to meet the current needs of the DISCOs.

 

 She further disclosed that some of the areas in which the downstream sector will benefit will include: change management, bridging the gap between the legacy staff and the newly recruited, appraisal method and access to a digital platform that will serve as a resource center to share ideas on best practices among several others.

 

In his contribution, the ANED Project Coordinator, Mr. Rotimi Adebari was hopeful that the outcome of the Needs Analysis currently being carried out in all the DISCOs with Kaduna Electric being first in the series would motivate employees and facilitate attitudinal change that will improve industry efficiency.  He added that ANED as the umbrella body is committed to creating best practices that would bring about an industry standard.

According to him, ANED is in the process to identify institutes with the capacity in terms of infrastructure and suitable facilitators who will help the industry grow in collaboration with the UIMM Project partners.

The Chief Operating Officer of Kaduna Electric, Mr. Major Bhaskar, thanked the team for the visit and commended them for choosing Kaduna Electric first. He assured them of the company's readiness to be part of the project

9 arrested for vandalizing Kaduna Electric, NDPHC equipment

Nine persons have been arrested for alleged vandalism of power supply infrastructure in Saminaka Local Government of Kaduna State.

The Head, Corporate Communications of Kaduna Electric, Abdulazeez Abdullahi stated this in a statement issued in Kaduna at the weekend.

He disclosed that "the nine suspected vandals and their four motor vehicles were recently apprehended by the police in Saminaka while perpetrating their nefarious activities and have since been transferred to Kaduna".

According to him, three of the suspects have been arraigned before the Magistrate Court 1, Ibrahim Taiwo Road, Kaduna for vandalizing power supply equipment worth millions of naira belonging to Kaduna Electric.

The remaining six suspects were arraigned before magistrate court 16, also in Ibrahim Taiwo Road, Kaduna for vandalizing power supply installation of the Niger Delta Power Holding company of Nigeria, the operator of the National Integrated Power Projects.

He lamented the recent increase in the cases of vandalism of power supply assets belonging to the Company which according to him is "telling negatively on the efforts of the Company to provide steady and qualitative power supply".

He appealed to the general public to be more vigilant and raise alarm especially when strangers are seen around power supply facilities at odd hours.

KADUNA ELECTRIC CONFIRMS STAFF' APPOINTMENTS

The Management of Kaduna Electric Distribution Company has confirmed the appointments of employees who have demonstrated commitment, loyalty and expertise on their assigned responsibilities. 

About 90% of the company's workforce were confirmed while some were  put on a six months probationary period within which it is expected their performance would have improved to earn them confirmation. Those staff whose performance was dismal had their appointments terminated.

The Managing Director\Chief Executive officer of the company, Engineer Garba Haruna said in a statement that those confirmed 'have been found competent enough to be team members after the conclusion of the recent talent review" conducted by the company. 

Engineer Garba while congratulating the successful employees charged them to see their confirmation 'as an exhibition of the company's belief in attracting and retaining best available talents to build core competencies" for the success of the company.

He also charged other staff whose appointments are yet to be confirmed to use the six months' probation period provided by the company "to focus on strengthening their knowledge and skills, enhance their individual and leadership capabilities and make sincere contributions" to the success of the company.

The Electricity boss reminded the entire work force of the company of the challenges before them and the need for all to be more dedicated to their duties and come-up with more innovative solutions.    

He said "Irrespective of our position, status, department and location, for all of us it is simply time to roll up our sleeves and settle for serious business as we redouble our efforts towards making Kaduna Electric the quintessential stakeholders' delight.   It should be borne in mind that each employee's continuous relevance in the organisation rests squarely on the ability to meet the company's needs, aspirations and goals from time to time.
