Kaduna Electric Targets six weeks for 1st Phase of Meters Deployment

The first phase of mass meters deployment currently being executed by Kaduna Electric shall be completed within six weeks.
This was disclosed by the Head, Energy Metering and New connection of the Company, Engineer Aliyu Abbas Abdullahi over the weekend while inspecting the meters installation exercise in Doka area of Kaduna.
He revealed that “the meters’ deployment programme of the Company is currently going on simultaneously in Kaduna, Kebbi and Sokoto States” while assuring that “the exercise will be launched in Zamfara state before the end of the year”.
He urged customers to embrace the new smart meters which will replace the old ones at customers homes saying the smart meters allows for ease of use as customers can recharge their meters even in the comfort of their bedrooms.
Engineer Aliyu disclosed that Kaduna, Sokoto and Kebbi States have been allocated 20,000, 18,000 and 12,000 smart meters respectively in the first phase of the programme.
He appealed to electricity users in the Company’s franchise area to be patient and cooperate with the meters installers “as a well articulated plan has been put in place to ensure the success of the programme”.
He also called on the general public to avail themselves with the audio-visual demonstration on how to make effective use of the new smart meters already posted on the Company’s web site.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

In a bid to constantly keep its esteemed customers fully abreast of transactions on their accounts, the Management of Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company has introduced an alert system to immediately inform customers of transaction(s) carried-out on their meters. The alert will contain information such as the nature of transaction, the amount, the kilowatts hour of electricity subscribed, date and time. This will further ensure that our customers have correct value for all their transactions.
Kaduna Electric is therefore calling on its valued customers to submit their valid mobile phone number to the cashier at any of our vending centres. Kindly ensure that you submit your personal number and not that of your wards, aides, house-help or security guard.

KADUNA ELECTRIC FIRES 24 FOR FRAUD

Kaduna Electric has sacked twenty-four members of its staff for fraud related cases.
 
A statement signed by the Head, Corporate Communication, Abdulazeez Abdullahi, quoted the Head of Human Resources, Hajia Khadija Kabir, as saying the staff were laid off following reports of an Investigation Committee that found them culpable of fraudulent offences, and confirmed by a Disciplinary Committee.
 
 “The staff were relieved of their duties after they were found guilty for various offences which range from stealing company funds, meter theft, illegal meter installation and signature forgery”.
 
Hajia Khadija noted that the process to establishing their guilt was a thorough one pointing out that there are checks in the system that notified the Supervisors who directly work with those indicted. 
 
“The offenders were first issued a query for them to explain themselves and those whose explanation were genuine enough were allowed to go, while those whose explanations were not convincing were forwarded to the Investigative Committee”.
 
She further revealed that the process is an ongoing one to checkmate the incidence of fraud and other negative behaviours, adding that there are still cases currently under investigation for different offences.
 
She therefore called on all staff to desist from all forms of fraudulent activities and to see themselves as stakeholders who are expected to maintain a high level of integrity, which according to her will be beneficial to all on the long run.
 
“The decision and process leading to the laying off of the culprits is clearly in line with the company’s policy and best practices which gave each accused the right to fair hearing irrespective of tribe, ethnicity or religion,” she explained.

The exercise is currently going on in Kaduna metropolis. The meters’ deployment programme entails supply and installation of smart meters to the customers FREE and recovery of all old meters.
Kaduna Electric is therefore enjoining its valued customers to give maximum co-operation to the installers whenever they come around. Any concern or complaint should be forwarded to the Project Manager or the Head, Energy Metering and New Connection in rooms 104 and 101, No. 1&2, Ahmadu Bello Way Kaduna respectively or through the Company’s customers care unit. Governor El-Rufa’i Commends Kaduna Electric, Flag-off Free prepaid in Kaduna


Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Ahmad Nasir El-Rufa’I have commended the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company for providing free prepaid meters to its customers in Kaduna State. The Governor, was represented by the State Commissioner for Works and Transport Engineer Hassan Usman Mahmud, stated this during the flag-off ceremony of the deployment of the meters in Kaduna today.
 According to Engineer Mahmoud, “I am here directed by His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Ahmad Nasir El-Rufa’I, to come here on behalf of the citizens of Kaduna State to congratulate the Distribution Company in Kaduna zone on this great milestone”.
The Governor also implored the Electricity Distribution Company to improve on it performance by “making these meters easily accessible to the public” urging the would be beneficiaries to avoid tampering with or manipulating the meters as such will attract penalty. “Once they are installed let us put a penalty that will make it more difficult for customers to circumvent them’’, he suggested.
In his brief goodwill message, the Emir of Zazzau Alhaji (Dr.) Shehu Idris who was represented by the Zannan Zazzau and District Head of Tudun Wada, Kaduna, Alhaji Falalu Dalhatu, congratulated the Management of the Company for the laudable effort. He expressed confidence in the ability of the Management to deliver on its promise.
According to the traditional ruler, “the company is in able hands given the track records of its Chairman Board of Directors, Alhaji Yusuf Hamisu Abubakar”.  
Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman Board of Directors of Kaduna Electric, Alhaji Yusuf Hamisu Abubakar welcomed all to the occasion.
He disclosed that “the exercise started last month in Sokoto and in continuation of our commitments to provide our customers with very intimate and good services, we are committed to ensuring that people pay for what they consumes and the best way to do this is by ensuring that people are properly metered.
He noted that the prepaid meters are smart meters, equipped with anti tampered device and they are very accurate and have been certified to have met international standard by the Nigeria Electricity Management Services agency (NEMSA).
He also said Kaduna Electric has the largest network coverage area in the country, stressing the Company’s resolve to providing world class services to its customers.  ‘’our commitment is continuous improvement in the provision of our services and I believe customers can attest to that”, he stated.
Alhaji Yusuf Hamisu Abubakar urged the customers to reciprocate the gesture of the Company by paying their bills promptly. According to him, “there are two sides to the issue, one is provision of excellent service and the other is payment for the services. As you all know, electricity business in Nigeria has undergone transformation from social service to a commercial product and for every commercial product, there is a price and somebody has to pay for that.’’
He also disclosed that the company had entered into a partnership with a foreign meter company to establish a meter manufacturing factory in Kaduna, when completed it will create employment opportunity to the citizens.

Kaduna Electric launches meters in Kaduna Wednesday

After the successful flag-off of the mass deployment of 50,000 prepaid smart meters in its franchise states at a ceremony in Sokoto in October, Kaduna Electric is set to launch the deployment of the meters in Kaduna state.

The Kaduna Launch which is expected to be flagged off by State Governor, Malam Nasir elRufa'i is scheduled for Wednesday, November 9 at NITR Layout, Unguwan Rimi in Kaduna metropolis at 10:00 am.

A statement by the Head, Corporate Communication, Abdulazeez Abdullahi, said that customers in Kaduna state are to be provided with the smart meters free of charge in the first batch of the deployment.

He said the company is expecting the delivery of more meters before year end which shall also be deployed to its teeming customers in Kaduna, Sokoto, Zamfara and Kebbi, its franchise states. 

He urged customers to embrace the installation of the meters in their homes as it is a better way of accurately reading the amount of energy consumed by customers and will ensure customers only pay for what they consume.

It will be recalled that the minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola along side the Sokoto state Governor, Aminu Tambuwal flagged off the mass meter deployment in October in Sokoto.

During the ceremony, the Managing Director of Kaduna Electric, Engr. Garba Haruna had reiterated the company's commitment to metering its customers and has devised a robust metering plan that will see a significant number of customers metered over the next five years.
